Description

  • Pendant with the Christ Child
  • partially enamelled gold, quartz or glass paste, and pearl
  • Spanish or South Italian, 17th century
together with a Spanish or South Italian partially enamelled gold pendant with a ship, 18th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the jewel is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are some losses to the enamelling, notably to the petals of the blue flowers, and to some of the white enamelling. There is particular wear to the enamelling at the back, notably to the white enamel and to the emerald green enamel. There is some slight wear to the enamelling on Christ's garment. There are various small nicks to the gold. Ship: There is wear to the enamelling throughout, notably losses to the enamelling along the side of the ship with the open mast. The enamelling to the underside of the ship has been lost. There is a fissure to the centre of the underside, from which a pearl is suspended. There are various other small losses to the enamelling, including to the mast, and there are some nicks to the gold. The pearls are untested.
