Description
- Antoine Marie Perrot
- Padua, a view of the Basilica of Saint Antony, seen from the west
- signed and dated lower right: A. Perrot 1842
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas has an old and sensitive relining. The paint surface is stable but dirty, with many surface accretions and a discoloured varnish. There is a very old collection label stuck to the painting in the bottom left corner of the canvas. There is a minor degree of craquelure in the dark tones throughout. There is a small 2 inch surface scratch in the plinth of the equestrian statue, and a dent in the paint surface with a few small losses above the flag on the right. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals very little restoration. This canvas is in very nice, seemingly near-original, condition.
