Description

  • Michele Desubleo
  • A young man holding a cup, possibly Ganymede
  • oil on canvas, laid on panel, oval (possibly reduced)

Condition

The canvas has been laid on panel and has possibly been reduced, although it is difficult to be definitive regarding this. Infilling of paint loss, and subsequent retouchings, can be seen around the upper edge, in the cup, and just to its left, and in a vertical band running the length of the figure's head, to the right. The face and hair of the figure are entirely free of retouchings and are in a fine, original state. The varnish has dirtied slightly but would respond well to cleaning. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the above. The work is offered in an oval gilt molded fram in good condition.
