Acquired directly from the artist, circa 1975.

Condition

Executed in circa 1975, this painting is still in immaculate condition, the colours are bright, the varnish is clear and even, and the panel is cradled and stable. Some of the pigment fluoresces under ultraviolet light, particularly in the whites.

A modern copy after Rogier van der Weyden's St. Columba Altarpiece, dating to circa 1462, originally located in the chapel founded by Goddert von den Wasservas in the church of St. Columba in Cologne, now held in the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, Pinakothek, Munich (inv. no. WAF.1189).
