  • 47 3/4 by 39 1/2 in.; 121.3 by 100.3 cm.

Condition

Oil on canvas, lined. The surface appears to be in overall good condition aside from a streaky varnish. Some minor, rather unnoticeable craquelure throughout, consistent with age. Abrasions and thinness at the extreme edges. Under UV light, there is a repaired tear, extending approximately 14 inches vertically, 12 inches horizontally and then another 6 inches diagonally, just to the right of the sitter, extending through her elbow. An additional area of inpaint in the background above the sitterÂ’s head; a line extending into her hair; and a line extending through her proper right eyebrow, eye and cheek. There are small spots of inpaint scattered throughout the background of the work and in the sitterÂ’s dress, including a spot in her proper right elbow. The streaky varnish drips and fluoresces along the lower part of the picture.
