Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. At present, this small painting on a very fine piece of canvas is adhered to and mounted behind a piece of glass. It is the varnish to the work which has caused the surface to become adhered in a few places. While it can certainly remain in its current condition, it seems that the work can be removed if desired. If one were to very carefully introduce a very mild solvent to the surface of the painting behind the glass, then the varnish would be softened and dissolved, releasing the work from the glass without any paint loss. The work does seem to be in marvelous condition nonetheless.
