Description
- Paolo Anesi
- Harbour scene with a ruined watch tower and groups of figures standing on the rocky shore
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas has an old relining.
The paint surface, albeit dirty, is in excellent condition overall with the thickness of paint strokes very well-preserved. There is some minor wear to the paint surface along the lower margin and the left edge, due to frame rubbing.
There is a small area of paint beginning to flake at the foot of the tower, and a tiny speck of missing paint in the uppermost branches of the tree on the right.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows old retouching in the blue pigments in the sky, and to the right part of the headland in the distance, as well as to the water either side of the sailboat. More recent small spot retouchings in the whites of the cloud and in the watchtower. Two more recent repairs along the lower margin.
This lot is offered in a glazed and gilt frame, in good condition.
