Condition

The canvas has a recent relining. There are some discoloured retouchings in the beard and in the sky. Ultraviolet light reveals a T-shaped tear in the centre (20 x 8 cm.) which has been very carefully repaired and is not disturbing to the naked eye. Another repaired L-shaped tear upper left, measures 6 x 4 cm. UV light also shows older retouching along the lower right margin and a small area of repair at the centre of the lower margin. Further small scattered retouchings are visible in the centre and right of the sky, in the lady's hair, in the man's sleeve, and in his face and beard. Overall the damages to the paint surface have been very well-restored, the paint surface is even, and in good condition. The picture is ready for display. This lot is offered in a gilt wood frame without damages.
