Description
- An artist at work
- oil on canvas, unlined
Provenance
Gory collection, Switzerland.
Condition
The canvas is unlined and has a somewhat uneven and discoloured varnish. The paint surface is stable and there are no major damages visible bar a tiny loss at the centre of the upper edge, and an old restored damage measuring 2 inches in length that has a patch on the reverse. The painting is in overall good original condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a very thick and opaque varnish, retouchings along the afore mentioned damage, and some strengthenings in the shadow of the split at the back of the artists coat, and in the shadows of the left leg of the stool on which he sits. Whether or not there are further retouchings beneath the varnish is hard to tell, but seemingly the picture is in good overall condition.
