Description

  • Thomas Jones
  • Landscape with a Mill
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Panton family, Plas Gwyn, Pentraeth, Anglesey.

Condition

The canvas has a firm relining and the paint surface is stable with a thick, discoloured, and in parts oxidised, varnish. The relining process has somewhat flattened the paint surface and is likely the cause of the small patches of distinctive craquelure in the top left corner and on the horizon line in the upper centre of the canvas. There are no major damages visible to the naked eye and there is no restoration visible on inspection under ultra violet light, the old thick varnish fluoresces opaque. In good overall condition.
