The panel has been thinned and quite recently cradled, and the two irregular upper corners made up. The paint surface has had a history of flaking and numerous recent, but stable, losses are visible in the catalogue illustration. There is a large, irregular, vertical old repaired split running down the centre of the panel. The paint surface is now dirty and the varnish a little discoloured. Ultraviolet light reveals numerous areas of discoloured restoration, presumably to the previous losses - these are chiefly concentrated in the face of the Virgin, the legs of the Christ Child, the nose and chin of the lower King, and to the sky and right background, as well as around the numerous losses mentioned above. The majority of the paint surface is otherwise well-preserved with much original detail and impasto intact. Offered in a later plain gilt wood frame.
