Catalogue Note

Although Marco Marchetti, known as Marco da Faenza, specialized in grotesque subjects, this drawing is very characteristic of his drawing style. At the death of Sabbatini in 1576, he took over responsibility for all the grotesque decorations in the Logge and the Stanze in the Vatican, where he also worked extensively on other decorative schemes.
