  • Pen and brown and grey ink over pencil heightened with wash
  • 295 by 424 mm

Condition

The medium is well preserved in this work and the image is easily readable. The sheet has some minor surface dirt and there is a small mark, reddish/brown in colour, to the centre left of the composition. This may be a small paper flaw.

Catalogue Note

This large-scale drawing is a fine example of Rowlandson’s draughtsmanship. Free-flowing in style, it was probably drawn from life. 'Pure’ landscapes such as these, reveal his exceptional mastery of pen, ink and washes and rarely appear on the market.  For other drawings from the Weldon collection, see lots 93-104.
