Description
- Adrian Zingg
- View of Lilienstein
- Pen and black ink and grey wash;
signed, lower right: A. Zingg. del.
Condition
Laid down on board. There is some slight discolouration to the four edges of the sheet, most probably due to an old mount. There are three, small, white marks to the sheet, one on the upper left edge, another on the lower left edge and the third above the sail of the boat on the right. There is a small pin prick hole hole to the left side of the cliff face, though this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Otherwise this work is in very good condition with the medium fresh and vibrant throughout. Sold in a modern wood frame.

Catalogue Note
This view of Lilienstein is closely comparable to page five in Zingg's Dresden sketchbook of 1766.1 The present work is, however, significantly more finished, with the additional inclusion of the boat on the river, as well as the figures in the left foreground. The mountain of Lilienstein is located beside the River Elbe, some 20km south east of Dresden.
