Catalogue Note

These drawings were made as the designs for illustrations to a new edition of Johan van Beverwyck's popular medical handbook, Schat der Gesondheyt, published by Jan Jacobsz. Schipper in Amsterdam in 1656 as part of the author's collected works.  (The book had first appeared, with different illustrations, in 1636.)  The prints, in reverse, after these drawings appear on pages 10 and 63 respectively.  For further information on this project, see T. Folmer-von Oven, 'Illustraties van Pieter Jansz. voor Johan van Beverwycks Schat der Gesondheydt, 1656,' in Delineavit et Sculpsit, 16, 1996, pp. 8-15.
