Catalogue Note

A pupil of Jacques-Louis David, Florent Fidèle Constant Bourgeois was a landscape painter, draughtsman and printmaker.  He spent the majority of his career in Italy producing numerous drawings of picturesque Italian views.  In 1804 a series of engravings after views by Bourgeois was published as the Receuil de Vues et Fabriques Pittoresques d'Italie.
