  • An elaborate frieze showing the triumph of a Roman general
  • Pen and brown ink heightening with white on buff paper, the bottom margin of the sheet washed light pinkish beige;
    bears old attribution in brown ink lower left: Tiepolo

Condition

Laid down on an old mount and on a modern cardboard. Wrinkled in the middle. The paper is buckling and has vertical wrinkles in two other places to the left side. There are pin point holes in places around the margins especially near the top corners. Some surface dirt and small brown staining at the top left corner and touches of red chalk lower right. Some oxidization in places.

Catalogue Note

This elaborate and pictorial frieze shows Milani's competence as a draftsman, and also his debt to the Carracci, especially Lodovico, whose style had a profound influence on Milani.  This finished frieze could be a modello, related to a decorative scheme for the interior of a palace.
