Catalogue Note
Comparable drawings from an album in the collection of The Earl of Beauchamp were sold at Christie's, London, 15 June 1965. Two very similar compositions depicting the blindfolded cupid surrounded by amorini were lots 120 and 121 in the Beauchamp sale. It is not known exactly why Tiepolo made these studies of putti and amorini, although the substantial series may have been inspired by Giambattista's Stanza dei Putti at the Villa Valmarana.
