Catalogue Note
Founded in 1879 by Robert and Louis Koch in Frankfurt-am-Main, the firm quickly expanded and opened a branch in Baden-Baden. In 1883, it gained the title of ‘Court Jeweller’ and worked for many European Royal and Imperial Families such as the Czar of Russia and the King of Italy. The firm passed to the founders' grandsons and nephews, but it was ‘aryanized’ under the Nazi regime. The company thrived again in the 1950s and closed doors finally in 1987. For an emerald and diamond tiara, Koch, Frankfurt-am-Main, circa 1910, see Sotheby's Geneva, Magnificent Jewels, 14 May 2012, lot 411.
