  • Four French silver boxes, various makers, Paris, 1755-1780

the first, maker's mark partly legible, probably JM, Paris, 1755, silver-gilt, rectangular, the lid chased with Aeneas with Venus appearing before Dido, the sides and base with animals and houses within rocaille scrolls, maker's mark, charge and discharge marks of Julien Berte, date letter, 6.3cm., 2 1/2 in. wide ; the second, silver, Paris, 1764, oval, chased with animals and trophies on a zig-zag sunray ground, Paris date letter, 6.5cm., 2 3/8 in. wide ; the third, silver-gilt, Antoine Daroux, Paris, 1750, cartouche shape, the lid and base chased with musicians and nymphs within rocaille scrolls, the sides with further rocaille ornaments, maker's mark, charge of Julien Berthe, date letter, later export mark for 1768-1774, 6.3cm., 2 1/2 in. wide ; the last example, silver, oval, maker's mark rubbed, probably CCG?, Paris, 1780, oval, chased overall with musical trophies within neoclassical ornament, on a sable ground, maker's mark, date letter, charge mark and poincon de la maison commune, 6cm., 2 3/8 in.; and a Bohemian silver snuff box, maker's mark GN, Prague, 1798, oval, decorated with flowers on a matted ground, 8.3cm., 3 1/4 in. wide

Condition

1. slight wear to ornament but good condition and colour overall, interior very rubbed. 2. slight wear to ornament but good condition. 3. wear to ornament but nice colour 4. some wear to ornament, center of base slightly pushed in. 5. good condition.
