Catalogue Note

In 1853 Charles Tiffany bought out his former partners, Young and Ellis, and renamed the firm Tiffany & Co.  Later that same year, the company moved from 271 Broadway, where they had been since 1847, to 550 Broadway (Charles Carpenter, Tiffany Silver, 1997 ed., p. 8 and 12).
