Catalogue Note

The monogram may be that of Abraham M. Schermerhorn (1791-1855) and his wife Mary Kent Adams (1798-1865).  In 1837 he was the third mayor of Rochester, New York, then from 1849 to 1853 the U.S. Representative for New York's 28th district, which included Rochester, Buffalo, and Niagra Falls.
