Catalogue Note
A tea service bearing a similar family crest, an anchor and motto 'Spero Meliora' but without the 'secorque,' ordered in circa 1745, is illustrated in David Sanctuary Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, vol. 1, p. 303, G6. The crest is of Rait of Holgreen and Anniston House, Forfarshire. According to Howard the family ordered various services and that this dish with tobacco leaf was ordered in the 19th century.
