Catalogue Note
Gauguin used this sketchbook during his visit to Tahiti in 1891-1893. The two feet on the sketch were studies for the feet of a Tahitian Mary in Ia Orana Maria [Hail Mary], a painting from 1891 now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On the verso of the leaf is a sketch of some broad-leaved foliage.
