Catalogue Note
A DOCUMENT SIGNED BY THE CATHOLIC KINGS RELATING TO ISABELLA'S FEMALE LATIN TUTOR.
Beatriz Galindo (1465-1535), a humanist known as La Latina, was the teacher of Queen Isabella of Castille and her children (including Catherine of Aragon) from 1486. She studied at an institute of the University of Salamanca and may have been taught by Antonio de Nebrija. There is a district of Madrid named for her.
This document allows for the children of Beatriz Galindo and the deceased Francisco Ramírez de Madrid, Fernán and Nufro Ramirez, and any of their descendants from legitimate marriages to inherit their parents' goods. Isabella made many gifts and bequests to Beatriz, including her dowry of 500,000 maravedíes. Isabella died later that same year, in November 1504.
