Catalogue Note
A popular handwriting manual, first published in 1548 (Bonacini 47) and regularly reissued throughout the sixteenth century, by the master of sixteenth-century Italian calligraphy. It includes a recipe for making black ink and vermilion, as well as gold for writing. Amphiareo taught calligraphy in Venice from 1518 onwards. The publisher, Alessandro Vecchi, was active in Venice from 1593 to 1630.
