Condition

Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There are two scuffs to the orange pigment in the upper right quadrant which appear to have been made whilst paint was still wet, and are thought to be inkeeping with the artist's working method. On extremely close examination it is possible to seen some very fine lines of craquelure apparent to the more impasto areas of paint, primarily apparent to the white and blue pigments at the centre of the canvas. There are some small flecks of paint loss to the composition, including a tiny area in the red pigment in the lower left corner and a further scratch with associated paint loss in the lower right corner. There is some very light surface dirt in places, including a pale drip in the lower right corner. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is presented in a gilt wooden frame with a linen slip.
