Sale, Sotheby's London, 6th November 2007, lot 38, where acquired by the present owner

Condition

Not viewed out of the frame. Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is some slight rubbing to the edges of the canvas, thought to be as a result of a previous frame. There are some extremely small losses to some of the raised impasto tips. There are some very fine lines of craquelure apparent, primarily visible in the light blue pigment towards the upper edge, the grey pigment in the lower right, the ochre handle of the cup and the ochre dish in the centre. There is a very small fleck of loss towards the lower left edge of the vessel on the left, and another very small loss to the centre of the ochre dish. There is an extremely light scuff in the light brown pigment in the lower left corner. There is some light surface dirt across the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals a fleck of retouching to the centre of the upper edge. There are further spots of fluorescence which appear inkeeping with the artist's working method. The work is float mounted and presented in painted wooden frame, held under glass.
