Condition

Not viewed out of the frame. Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There are some very minor push marks around the edges of the canvas: two at the upper left corner, one at the lower left corner, one towards the left of the lower horizontal edge, and one towards the right of the lower horizontal edge. There is a very tiny fleck of loss to the pink pigment towards the centre of the upper horizontal edge, with an extremely tiny line of craquelure beneath it, visible only upon very close inspection. There are some very light scratch marks visible to the trees and sky at the centre and centre left of the work, which appear to be inkeeping with the artist's technique. There is some slight rubbing apparent around the edges of the work, most apparent at the lower right vertical edge, where there are one or two associated losses visible, most likely as a result of frame abrasion. There is some very light surface dirt in places. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals some retouching apparent at each of the upper corners. There is a further very small fleck of retouching visible to the pink pigment near the centre of the upper horizontal edge, and several very small flecks to the peach pigment in the sky to the right of centre. The work is housed in an ornate gilt wood and plaster frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
