Condition

The work sits on a black, cylindricalbase. There is some minor pitting inherent to the casting process. There is some rubbing to the surface of the polished steel consistent with age and handling. Otherwise this work appears to be in very good original condition.

Catalogue Note

The present work is one of four versions Arp created of this iconic sculpture, its subject is a key motif in the output of many Dada and Surrealist artists of the period. A cast of the largest version of L'Étoile adorns the artist's grave in Locarno, Switzerland.
