Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The restoration to the work is still effective. The canvas has an old lining, but the painting has been cleaned more recently. The reflection of the house and trees in the water and the lower right corner are a little uneven, and there are a few retouches here. Abrasion does not appear to have been an issue, and the profiles of the trees against the sky are still very well preserved. There are a few retouches in the golden part of the sky in the center left. Within the remainder of the sky, although there are small dots of retouching here and there, the condition is very good. It is more or less impossible to properly gauge where retouches are in the remainder of the picture. Although there are probably some in the darkest colors, the condition throughout the picture is clearly very good in general.
