Provenance

Private collection, Canada.

Condition

The painting is well preserved, presenting a bright image beneath a fresh, clear varnish. Inspection under UV reveals a repaired horizontal tear of approximately 4 in. running from the right edge at the level of the stone ledge. There are some minor areas of retouching to the edges but the figure remains largely untouched with only very few cosmetic retouches here and there. The varnish reads a little unevenly under UV, particularly in the pink draped shawl however this is not apparent to the naked eye. The painting requires o further work and is ready to hang in its present state. Offered in a period carved gilt wood frame (see catalogue note).
