Condition

Oil on canvas with an old, sympathetic lining. The surface is in overall very good condition aside from surface dirt; minor frame abrasions at the extreme edges; a minor abrasion to the subject's knee; and a small loss near the right upper edge. Under UV light, there are 3 areas of fluorescence along the upper edge. There are some additional dashes and areas of fluorescence in the subject's chest and dress, which may be part of the artist's intentions. Additionally there are small spots of fluorescence scattered across the lower third of the work, which appear to be related to the application of the varnish.
