Oil on canvas with an old lining. The surface is in overall fair condition, though the lower left corner and area above the table at left have been roughly inpainted with brown paint. Under UV light, the majority of the work is obscured by a thick, green-fluorescing varnish. There are dots and dashes of older retouching between the minkey in the chair and the cat on trial, as well as around some of the items behind the seated monkey. There is an area of fluorescence near the upper right corner as well.
