Condition

Oil on canvas with an old reline The original canvas edges are visible, and the edges are lifting from the newer canvas. This is especially evident along the left edge and in the lower right corner. Frame abrasions. The surface is in overall fair condition aside from a dirty varnish and a stable web of cracquelure, which has associated losses along the upper edge and in the lower left quadrant. Paint surface is somewhat rubbed and slightly flattened, especially in the sitters shoulder. Under UV light, the varnish obscures the canvas and - aside from a diagonal streak of discoloration to the left of the subject's waist - little is visible.
