Condition

Oil on canvas, lined. The picture surface is in generally good condition. Surface dirt, dirty varnish and a stable web of craquelure in line with the age of the work. Slightly flattened remnants of impasto remain. Under UV light, there are areas of retouching along the upper edge and scattered through the sky and in the shadows around the figures. The darks have been strengthened throughout. It appears the right lower edge has been cleaned of varnish, as the majority fluoresces dark. The rest of the picture is covered by a green fluorescing varnish. In a painted and carved green and gold wooden frame. The lower left and upper right corners of this frame have been cut.
