Catalogue Note

The style of marquetry on this table can be related to the work of André-Louis Gilbert (maître 1774) who specialised in making furniture veneered with panels of architectural marquetry, sometimes in the manner of Hubert Robert, and also in the manner of Pierre-Antoine Machy. Gilbert also made marquetry panels which he sold to his fellow ébénistes.
