Cosson was one of the first ébénistes to produce geometrical marquetry in the neoclassical style and according to the authors, op. cit., ` ..throughout his career the designs of his veneers were innovative and experimental'.
Jacques Laurent Cosson (1737- 1812), received master in 1765.
He was based in the Rue de Charonne where his business flourished ranging from producing exquisite furniture such as commodes inset with porcelain plaques and some lacquered pieces to dealing in tapestries. He worked mainly for marchands ébénistes such as Boudin, Moreau and Pierre Migeon III.
