A George II Britannia standard silver sauceboat, maker's mark indistinct, probably Paul de Lamerie, London, 1730

the oval body engraved on one side with armorials within a crossed foliate spray cartouche headed by a basket of flowers, spreading foot and double scroll handle, underside with scratchweight 13=16

maker's mark indistinct lettering but very clear crown star and Fleur de lis as in Lameries mark Grimwade no. 2203, some minor cleaning scratches, generally condition is excellent. The arms may well have been engraved as a memento of the Vernon baronet who died in 1725: The Vernon Baronetcy, of Hodnet, Salop was created in the Baronetage of England for Henry Vernon of Hodnet, Shropshire on 23 July 1660. It became extinct in 1725. The Vernon Baronetcy, of Hanbury Hall in Worcestershire was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom for Harry Foley Vernon on 23 July 1885. It became extinct in 1940.
