with scroll ends, moulded leaf and flower carved frame, loose cushioned seat and cabriole legs, re-gilt, possibly altered front and rear seat-rails,

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. Joints sound and sturdy. Gilding worn with only very minimal traces left. Attractive detail to carving. Some minor chips to carving and gilding. Hairline construction cracks at joints commensurate with age which can be left. Stretcher added below to strengthen.

This form of sofa is known as a `lis de repos à la Turque' or`sultane' or `Turquoise' . One of similar form by Jean Avisse is in the Musée Nissim de Camondo and illustrated by Sylvie Legrand-Rossi, Le Mobilier du Musée Nissim de Camondo, 2012, Saint-Etienne, p. 159, no. 58.
