The five-strand necklace composed of numerous cultured pearls, centering a garland-style plaque of openwork design, set in the center with an old mine-cut diamond weighing approximately 1.80 carats, the plaque and clasp further set with round and old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 7.00 carats, length 20½ inches; the central plaque circa 1915.
Condition
In very good condition. The round to near-round cultured pearls have a creamy white body color with strong rose and moderate green overtones, good luster and minute blemishing mainly in the form of pitting, not evident when worn. The center old mine-cut diamond that is set in the plaque is approximately K-L color, SI clarity. The remainder of the diamonds in the plaque and the clasp range from approximately G-J color, predominantly VS clarity. Length approximately 20 1/2 inches, length of plaque approximately 2 inches. Accompanied by a copy of a Valuation Appraisal from Cartier dated April 1st, 2010, available upon request. Retailed by Cartier New York. Please note that a strand has become detached and will be repaired for the purchaser by Sotheby's.
