The necklace and earrings suspending kite-shaped pendants, the three pendants on the necklace set with glazed compartments on the reverse, applied with red and white enamel, additionally set with seed pearls, total gross weight approximately 54 dwts, necklace length 15 inches; all pendants detachable; circa 1880. With fitted box.
Condition
In good condition. NECKLACE: The enamel exhibits some very minor damage to the white scrolls near the detachable pendants and on a few of the red "dot" motifs. The seed pearls are off-round with silvery white body color, fair luster and wrinkled skins. The center pendant contains an intact glazed compartment, probably for a miniature portrait, the other two pendants have lost theirs. The gold exhibits minor discoloration to the reverse of the pendants, commensurate with age and wear. With scratch numbers "344" and "909." EARRINGS: A few of the red enamel "dots" exhibit minor losses under magnification, otherwise the enamel is intact. Seed pearls in the necklace, off round, with silvery white bodycolor, fair luster and wrinkled skins. The earrings are fitted with posts that may have been later added.
