Sale, Sotheby's London, 21st May 1986, lot 153, where acquired by the present owner

Condition

The canvas has been re-lined. The canvas appears sound. There are one or two very fine lines of reticulation. There are some fines lines of craquelure in some of the more impasto areas of paint, which has resulted in some very small scattered spots of loss, most apparent to the flowers, the vase and the lower section of the curtain. There is some very slight lifting to the craquelure towards the lower right vertical edge. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals some flecks of retouching, most apparent to the left of the painted flowers, to the table and to the upper right corner, with further small scattered flecks apparent to the curtain, flowers and vase. These have been very sensitively executed, and this is not visible to the naked eye. The work is presented in a lightly varnished and painted wooden frame.
