There are areas of cracking in several places across the work, most apparent in the sky, including a diagonal line which runs throughout the top quarter of the composition, at the left vertical edge and on and around the woman's figure. There are some very small areas of possible loss, most apparent in the lower half of the work. There is also a small vertical scuff, just to the left of the subject's neck. There is some studio detritus across the work, and also some surface dirt. There are areas of blooming to the varnish throughout, but most apparent at the left vertical edge and on and around the woman's figure. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is housed in a wooden frame with a linen slip.
