Condition
This work has been fairly recently restored. The canvas is not lined, but still has remnants of a wax adhesive on the reverse. The tacking edges have been reinforced all around. The stretcher is not original. When viewed under ultraviolet light, it can be seen that there are possible losses in the light colored line in the upper right, and a few spots around the nose of the figure and immediately above the red rectangle in her waist. While the texture of the work is good, the paint layer is stable, and the condition of the surface very respectable, the conversation and presentation on the reverse is quite clumsy. This is a work that could receive more refined care. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
