Catalogue Note

Mordecai Ardon, born Max Bronstein, studied at the Bauhaus School in Weimar between 1921 and 1924 under such notable artists as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, and Johannes Itten. Itten taught the Preliminary course for Ardon, focusing on the importance of materials which prompted him to study the Old Masters works to recognize the patterns of form and harmonies of composition. These two works, each dated 1923, are his resulting interpretations.
