Condition

The canvas is not lined and there do not appear to be any signs of retouching visible under UV light. There are some very fine lines of craquelure to some of the more thickly applied pigments. Overall this work is in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

The present work depicts the artist with family and friends at the beach of Trestrignel, Brittany, where Denis had bought a house a few years earlier in 1908. The artist is the man in a hat to the right of the group and the central girl dressed in red is the artist's fourth daughter Madeleine, born in 1906 and whom he often depicted wearing red.
