Condition

Overall in excellent original condition showing very gentle use. This cabinet is part of a larger collection acquired as part of a long relationship with George Nakashima. Five works from the collection of Dorothy G. Roby appear in this auction catalogue. This work was designed and begun with George Nakashima and was completed following his death by his daughter, Mira Nakashima. The current condition of this cabinet shows the acute attention and care of the owners. The wood selection used to execute this work presents with extraordinary figuring and deeply saturated hues throughout ranging in colors from warm caramel hues to vivid reds as seen in the catalogue illustration. The case with a few very minute surface scratches and one indentation along the proper left edge to the reverse measuring less than a half inch, only visible on very close inspection. The back of this work is beautifully finished utilizing the same richly colored walnut of the case, and the piece can be used as a room divider. One small area of adhesive residue to the reverse. The interior is fitted with a fixed shelf at the mid-height with three additional movable shelves. The original fastening hardware has been retained, with one modern replacement peg. A superb example of a very rare work by Nakashima dispaying his signature craftsmanship and extraordinary wood selection. -----
