Condition

Overall in good condition. When viewed in person, the vellum displays a very delicate texture. The top comprises two lateral sliding tables that support the opening top of the cabinet, lined with mirrored glass. The interior of the cabinet is also lined with mirrored glass and with two adjustable clear glass shelves. The vellum surfaces with a few minor surface scratches, scattered abrasions and light surface soiling consistent with age and gentle use. The vellum with a few sensitively undertaken restorations to stabilize the vellum, not at all visually distracting. The front door with minor stable cracks in the vellum, visible in the catalogue illustration and consistent with the natural ageing of the vellum. The back upper edge of the cabinet with a small chip measuring 1/8 x 1/8 in. and which has been professionally stabilized. The proper right feet with minor lifting to the vellum to the inner front edge and to the outer back edge, only visible upon close inspection. The front door is slightly misaligned with the body of the cabinet, as a result of the ageing of the wood and not at all visually distractive. The sliding tables can be opened from the interior of the cabinet and presents with a slightly more yellow vellum surface. The mirrored glass interior was possibly replaced at some point in the history of the piece and is in good condition, with a few scattered dark spots and minor edge chips to the bottom, consistent with age and gentle use. The interior shelves with some surface scratches and minor edge chips consistent with age and use. With a key that appears to be a later replacement. A sculptural piece and masterwork by Jean-Michel Frank which presents with extraordinary presence when viewed first-hand. -----
