Description

  • bronze
the interior vividly enamelled in the centre with a medallion enclosing a five-clawed dragon leaping through billowing multi-coloured clouds, encircled by a lotus scroll studded with pink bats reserved on a vibrant yellow ground, the exterior with three further dragons partly hidden by clouds on a matching ground, the base with a blue phoenix medallion against a white ground, all between a metal lining bordering the mouthrim and the footrim

Provenance

Sotheby's London, 13th July 2005, lot 342.

Condition

Apart from some typical crackles to the enamel, including a star-shaped one of approx. 4.5 cm to the base, the overall condition is very good. There are also some characteristic tarnishing to the edges and expected scratches and wear especially to the interior. The originally gilt decorated right pupil of the dragon has probably been retouched.
